Snipping tool for Chromebook Free
A free screen capture extension for Chromebook, one click in the Chrome Web Store: capture an area, the visible tab or a whole scrolling page, add arrows and blur in the editor, share a link. No account, nothing to unpack.
Snip tool for Chromebook: why a screen capture extension
Installs like any Chrome extension
ChromeOS runs Chrome, so the snip tool for a Chromebook is the same extension from the Chrome Web Store: no installer, no unpacking, no Linux container. It runs on any Chromebook that can open the Web Store.
More than the built-in screen capture
The Chromebook screenshot keys grab the screen or an area and drop a PNG into Downloads. The extension also captures a full scrolling page and opens an editor with arrows, text, numbering and blur right on top of the screenshot.
A link instead of a file
Upload the screenshot and get a short link with a view counter. On a Chromebook, where files pile up in Downloads and storage is small, a link in a chat, an email or Google Classroom is faster than attaching a file.

Chromebook screenshot shortcuts: built-in and ours
A Chromebook has no Print Screen key. The Show windows key (⧉, where F5 sits on other keyboards) does its job; once the extension is installed, three more hotkeys capture exactly what you need.
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+ Show windows | Built-in: screenshot of the whole screen, saved to Downloads. |
| Ctrl+ Shift+ Show windows | Built-in: the screen capture toolbar — drag to select an area, or pick a window. |
| Ctrl+ Alt+ Show windows | Built-in: screenshot of a window — click the window you want after pressing the keys. |
| Power+ Volume down | Built-in: screenshot on a Chromebook in tablet mode, with the keyboard folded away. |
| Ctrl+ F5 | Built-in: the same as Ctrl + Show windows on an external keyboard without the ⧉ key; Ctrl + Shift + F5 selects an area. |
| Quick Settings+ Screen capture | Built-in, no keyboard: click the clock on the shelf and pick Screen capture. |
| Ctrl+ Shift+ A | Extension: select an area, then the editor opens on top of the screenshot. |
| Ctrl+ Shift+ S | Extension: the visible part of the tab. |
| Ctrl+ Shift+ E | Extension: the full scrolling page, stitched into one tall screenshot. |
Built-in screenshots land in the Downloads folder and in the Tote next to the clock. The extension opens the editor with Copy, Save and Upload; in its options you can make any of the three the default and skip the editor.
