Why the screenshots come out sharp

01

The full resolution of the screen

On scaled displays the capture keeps every physical pixel: a Retina ×2 screen gives an image twice the size of what you see. Text stays crisp at any zoom.

02

Lossless PNG or JPEG, your choice

PNG by default, with no compression and no artifacts. Need a smaller file — switch to JPEG and set a quality from 50 to 100 in the settings.

03

The editor does not degrade the image

Arrows, text and crop are applied to the original at 1:1, whatever the zoom in the editor. What you save is exactly what you captured, plus your annotations.

How to take a high quality screenshot

An HD capture in four steps

Nothing to configure: the quality is at maximum from the start.

  1. 1 Install the browser extension or the app for Windows or macOS.
  2. 2 Capture an area, a window or the full page with a hotkey. It is taken at full resolution.
  3. 3 If needed, switch the format to JPEG and set the quality in the extension settings.
  4. 4 Save the PNG to disk, copy it to the clipboard or get a link to the capture.

Screenshot quality and format FAQ

Why are my screenshots blurry and how do I make them sharper?
Usually the capture is taken at a reduced scale or recompressed as JPEG. Here it is taken as a lossless PNG at the real resolution of the screen, so text and lines stay crisp.
What format is the screenshot saved in?
Lossless PNG by default. In the extension settings you can switch to JPEG and pick a quality from 50 to 100, 90 by default.
Does it capture at full resolution on Retina and 4K?
Yes. The capture holds every physical pixel of the screen: on a display at 200% scale the image is twice the size of the visible area. That goes for an area capture and the full page alike.
What is the maximum screenshot resolution?
Locally, the size of your screen or page. On the server a capture is stored at up to 4096 pixels wide and 16384 tall; larger ones are scaled down proportionally.
What about quality when I share a link?
On the server the capture is stored as WebP at quality 90: visually lossless but several times lighter than PNG. The link opens the full-size image, and it can be downloaded.
Does the editor compress the image on save?
No. Annotations are applied to the original pixels at 1:1 and the file is saved in the chosen format with no extra downscaling.
